Press Release: Afghanistan-Pakistan-US Tripartite Commission Meets in Kabul
Tripartite Commission, composed of senior diplomatic and military representatives of the United States, Afghanistan and Pakistan held its second meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today in Kabul to discuss mutual concerns, including activities in the border region. American, Afghan and Pakistani officials assessed recent progress in combating al-Qa’ida and Taliban remnants, and shared information and analysis of the security situation. The commission reviewed the recent developments along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and decided to set up a sub committee consisting of representatives from all three participating countries. The sub committee will carry out ground verifications within a week to address each other’s concerns and submit its findings as soon as possible to the Tripartite Commission. The Afghan delegation was led by National Security Advisor, Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, assisted by the Deputy Minister of the Interior General Hilalludin Hilal and General Sher Mohammad Karimi of the Ministry of Defense. The Pakistani delegation was led by the Director General of Military Operations, Major General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and assisted by Director General Additional Secretary Rashed Saleem Khan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Major General Franklin Hagenbeck and Ambassador Victor Jackovich led the US delegation, which also included representatives from the US embassies in Kabul and Islamabad.
