President’s Remark at Savar

Following is the text of the President’s remarks on Visitor’s Book at the National Memorial of Martyrs at ‘Savar’ (Dhaka) during his recent visit to Bangladesh:

I bring good wishes from the people of Pakistan for the Bangladeshi brothers and sisters, we wish this land and its people peace, progress and prosperity. Your brothers and sisters in Pakistan share the pain of the event of 1971. The excesses committed during the unfortunate period are regrettable. Let us bury the past in a spirit of magnanimity. Let not the thought of the future be dimmed. Let us move forward together. Courage to compromise is greater than courage to confront. I am confident that with our joint resolve, Pakistan- Bangladesh friendship will flourish in the years to come.
